Green Your Home Contest Is Innovative, Gains National Attention
In May, the Uptown Consortium and the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance, with support form the City of Cincinnati, kicked off the Green Your Home contest to promote energy savings in the Uptown neighborhoods. This week, ProudGreenHome.com, a national publication featuring best practices in green living, featured the contest in their editorial section.
During the Green Your Home contest, each registrant has been connecting to an online home energy comparison portal that allows homeowners to assess their current energy use and measure their home's performance.
One entrant from each of the five Uptown neighborhoods will win a free energy assessment, which includes a three to five hour visual inspection and a blower door test to measure the extent of air leaks in the home. Diagnostic tests will be performed to ensure that combustion appliances are operating safely. Depending on need, the grand prize winner will receive a free full home energy efficiency improvement that may include insulation, air and duct sealing, and equipment improvements, plus up to a $1,000 in energy efficient windows, totaling up to $7,500 in home energy improvements.
There are no income requirements for participation, and single-family homeowners in Avondale, Clifton, Corryville, Clifton Heights, Fairview, University Heights (the last three CUF areas count as one neighborhood) and Mt. Auburn can enter. For more information about the event or the Green Your Home contest, visit http://www.greatercea.org/greenyourhome .
Green Your Home sponsors include Bill Groh Construction, Tri State Wholesale Building Supplies, Cincinnati Zoo, Aquarius Star, Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance and Uptown Consortium. The contest deadline is June 24.
