Public SafetyThe Consortium's goal in Public Safety is to ensure that Uptown is a safe, attractive and walkable community for its residents, employees, students and visitors, and that it is welcoming to all.
To that end, the Consortium has budgeted over $100,000 to hire off-duty police officers to reduce crime in Uptown identified "hot spots," areas of high crime areas which have been identified by police reports, community complaints and tracking reports supplied by the University of Cincinnati’s School of Criminal Justice. In 2006, the Consortium jointly sponsored "Operation Cease Fire" with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Officers (NOBLE). The community meeting to presented and discussed solutions for eliminating gun violence in Uptown Cincinnati. The event was extremely well-attended, resulting in a standing-room-only crowd. The Consortium continues to evaluate a variety of other activities to further the creation of a clean, safe and visible presence within Uptown. These include the establishment of lighting standards throughout Uptown; launching graffiti removal and street cleaning initiatives; and identifying and targeting negligent property owners with the City's and community's assistance. |
