Tony T. Brown
President and CEO
Tony Brown became president and CEO of the Uptown Consortium in March 2004. His distinguished record of achievement as a banker and leader in the field of community development finance has helped him position the consortium as both a premier community partner and the driving force of redevelopment in Uptown Cincinnati.
Brown’s career in banking dates to 1982 at U.S. Bank in Cincinnati. In 1985, he joined Bank of America in Florida, where his tenure included a number of senior management positions in community development.
In 2001, Brown was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as director of the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) fund, a government-owned corporation housed in the United States Department of Treasury. Under his direction, the CDFI fund made a significant contribution to creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the nation’s low income communities. Brown also successfully implemented the $15 billion New Markets Tax Credit program. He served at CDFI until joining the consortium in March 2004.
In addition to his work at the consortium, Brown remains very involved in a variety of community-focused endeavors. He serves on the board of trustees of the Community Reinvestment Fund, a nonprofit organization that connects community development lenders with the capital resources of Wall Street. Brown also serves on the Federal Reserve Board of Governor’s Consumer Advisory Council and the boards of the national New Markets Tax Credit Coalition, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Downtown Cincinnati, Inc., Cincinnati Park Board Advisory Group and the Talbert House. Brown is an advisor to several University of Cincinnati programs, including serving as a member of the President’s UC|21 Strategic Planning Council, Institute for Policy Research and the University’s School of Real Estate Executive Advisory Council.
Brown earned both undergraduate (international affairs and business) and masters (finance) degrees from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
