Accompanied by the Concert Orchestra, CCM Dance will present three world premieres including El Amor Brujo with music by Manuel de Falla and choreography by Dance Division Head Shellie Cash. Roger Van Fleteran, associate artistic director and resident choreographer of the Alabama Ballet, will present a new work for dance majors to music by Antonin Dvok, Serenade for strings in E Major, Op. 22, and CCM Associate Professor Michael Tevlin will create a new work to the music of Aaron Copland. In addition, guest artist Vivi Flindt (Royal Danish Ballet) will restage one of the first romantic ballets, La Sylphide, with music by Herman Severin Lovenskiold. Originally choreographed in 1836 by August Bournonville, this beautiful white ballet epitomizes the ideology of the time, bringing to life through music and dance the duality of realism juxtaposed to the realm of dreams.
