Uptown is home to four of Cincinnati’s six largest employers (Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, TriHealth, Inc. and the University of Cincinnati (UC). Additionally, the world-famous Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is located in Uptown. Consortium members alone employ nearly 50,000 people, have a payroll of $1.4 billion and produce an annual economic impact of well beyond $3 billion. Combined, UC and its affiliates and CCHMC had approximately $334 million of funded research in 2005, with an annual growth rate of almost 15 percent. The Health Alliance and TriHealth also have strong interests in clinical research and technology development.
